Miss T's Testimony

I had been brought up to believe in God, I often prayed to Him when I needed to and believed the bible but never read it. I identified myself with being a Catholic from the influence of my mother who had attended a catholic school, and had family members that were associated with the Catholic church. Although not regularly attending church. I also had associations with latterdaysaint friends later in life in which I was considering attending their church. I liked their guidelines, not really fully understanding a lot of their belief systems at that time.

In approximately 1989, I had been witnessed to by a family member. This family member had recently accepted Jesus Christ as personal Saviour and had been excited to share the gospel with the family. On hearing the need to be born again OR die in my sins and go to hell. I politely said not now, maybe later. When secretly, I had thought that he had gone strange and didnt believe that God could send anyone to a place called hell.

In the timespan of about three years, the maybe later time for me had finally arrived. I was faced with a defining point in my life where I had to make some serious cross road decisions that would affect my life forever. Wanting to make the right decision, I asked counsel of this family member who I had seen make some positive changes in their life and whom seemed to love God, with all their heart and made me desire to ask for advice on what the bible said on these topics. I was taken thru some bible verses and was encouraged to read some literature and consider getting saved.

I was given a large pile of chick tract gospel comics, large and small and begin to read them and to seriously consider what God was offering me. All the comics eventually pinpointed to the fact that Jesus died on the cross to pay for my sins and was offering me eternal life, a free gift that had so cruelly and undeservingly been paid for by the Lord on the cross at Calvary. If I believed that I was a sinner; called on Jesus who had taken my punishment on the cross and ask him to come in my life and save me, He would promise to give me a 100 percent assurance of going to Heaven when I died. This was only because of what He did for me on that cross to pay for my sin, and to trust by faith that I could not earn heaven by my good deeds or any religion (Ephesians 2:8,9). I decided after reading the tracts and with much thought that I had some much to gain in trusting in Jesus for salvation. I prayed and asked Jesus in to my life and called out to him for His free gift of salvation.

That was the beginning of a wonderful life in Christ Jesus, moving ahead in the will of the Lord for my life. I started to attend a good bible believing church, take the next step in becoming a Christian and start to make positive changes in the new relationship with my new best friend. A favourite memory verse at the time of being newly saved was: Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (Proverbs 3:5,6). And another encouraging verse for me when in the midst of discouragement was: And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28). Praise the Lord that any thing good that comes out of me is from the Lord: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above...(James 1:17).
